Q&A

Can you briefly introduce yourself and your role at Atlas Antibodies?

I am Hakim Jaffer, and I work as a Production Manager at Atlas Antibodies. I lead a team handling antibody manufacturing and day-to-day lab operations. My role is to keep production running smoothly, make sure quality is consistent and deliver products that researchers can rely on.

What part of your work do you find especially interesting or important?

What I find most interesting is making sure our production is consistent and reliable. It sounds simple on the surface, but there is quite a lot behind it: understanding the science, improving processes and making sure every batch meets the expected quality. Production involves repeated operations, but it also involves continuous improvement — looking at how we can reduce variability, increase efficiency and prevent issues before they happen.

What skills or mindset are important in your role?

A big part of the role is balancing technical understanding with a structured way of working. My background helps me on the scientific side, but just as important is having a strong process mindset: keeping things consistent, well documented and always looking for ways to improve. Being proactive also matters. A lot of issues can be avoided if you stay ahead, look at trends and question how things could be done better.

Why Atlas Antibodies?

Atlas Antibodies stood out because of its strong scientific background and its connection to the Human Protein Atlas. It does not feel like just another company; it is clearly linked to real research and a bigger purpose. I also appreciate the focus on doing things properly, especially when it comes to quality, and the open and supportive culture.

Why does your work matter to you personally?

For me, it comes down to trust. Researchers rely on our antibodies, and even small inconsistencies can affect their results. Since I have worked in science myself, I know how frustrating unreliable antibodies can be. That is something I keep in mind, and it motivates me to make sure what we produce is something I would trust in my own experiments.

What do you appreciate about the people you work with?

I appreciate how knowledgeable people are, while still being approachable and supportive. There is strong expertise across teams and a collaborative way of working. Even when things get busy or stressful, there is a sense that everyone is working toward the same goal.

Looking ahead, what are you excited about?

I am looking forward to how we can continue improving and evolving production. There is a lot of potential in making processes more efficient, using data better and working in a smarter way while still keeping high quality. Personally, I am interested in improvements that make production more predictable and robust.

Just for fun: what object matches your work style?

I would compare myself to a pipette. It looks simple, but it is all about precision and consistency. Small mistakes in pipetting can completely change results, and that has stayed with me. I try to approach my work in the same way: get the basics right, keep things consistent and make small improvements over time.
